The best part about this package is that each one comes with both a regular card swiper and a chip reader square. This is great since so many cards are now going to chip but you still need a swiper for regular cards.

USB: Universal Serial Bus (USB) is an industry standard that defines the cables, connectors and communications protocols used in a bus for connection, communication, and power supply between computers and electronic devices.
When you’re viewing a webpage, document or picture on your iOS device’s screen, using just a few taps of the screen you can send what you’re viewing wirelessly to your printer and be holding a hard copy in your hands within a matter of seconds.
Two other wireless technologies are Ultra-Wideband (UWB) and Certified Wireless USB. The UWB approach requires devices to transmit information over a wide spectrum of radio frequencies using lower power transmissions. Several competing organizations are trying to establish UWB standards. With Certified Wireless USB, computers send data wirelessly through adapters that plug into USB ports on computers and other devices. Data rates are much higher with this approach, but the range of transmission isn’t as large [source: Bluetooth].
A contactless smart card is a card in which the chip communicates with the card reader through an induction technology similar to that of an RFID (at data rates of 106 to 848 kbit/s). These cards require only close proximity to an antenna to complete a transaction. They are often used when transactions must be processed quickly or hands-free, such as on mass transit systems, where a smart card can be used without even removing it from a wallet.

The standard for contactless smart card communications is ISO/IEC 14443. It defines two types of contactless cards (“A” and “B”) and allows for communications at distances up to 10 cm (3.9 in). There had been proposals for ISO/IEC 14443 types C, D, E, F and G that have been rejected by the International Organization for Standardization. An alternative standard for contactless smart cards is ISO/IEC 15693, which allows communications at distances up to 50 cm (1.6 ft).

@SSmobile @Kevin7 – I went ahead and moved both of your comments over to the thread where we are tracking this feature request. I totally understand your frustration and desire for Epson support. They make a mean printer that is also a fraction of the cost of most Star printers. I have personally passed this feedback along to our product team, and expanding compatibility is something that is top of mind for them. I’ll update this thread if/when this functionality is added in the future!
This chip reader links to either of my square app devices (one is iOS, one is Android) via Bluetooth with no problem. When I have the reader in its dock & plugged in I never have trouble with it sleeping at inopportune times as other reviewers mentioned. It has increased my customer satisfaction with sales process since I now can read chip cards and offer Droid/Apple pay. It is also easier for me to use than the little magstripe reader.
There are three main ways to connect your printer into your Wi-Fi network: using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS), using the printer’s onboard Wireless Setup Wizard, or by connecting your printer to your computer via USB and using the supplied software to configure the wireless connection.
In many cases the type of printer supported is determined by the application of your choice. Each Application Developer has decided to strategically support certain printer types. However many of them allow you to pick between these three major connectivity types.
Accept contactless payments and chip cards. The Square contactless and chip reader connects wirelessly to your iOS or Android device. Accept NFC transactions (like Apple Pay and Google Wallet) and EMV chip cards on the go, or add it to your Square Stand to complete your countertop.

The Ethernet printers compatible with Square Point of Sale are thermal printers. They call for heat-sensitive paper and won’t work with non-thermal receipt paper. These types of printers typically aren’t excellent for kitchens or high-temperature working areas.
Examples of widely used contactless smart cards are Taiwan’s EasyCard, Hong Kong’s Octopus card, Shanghai’s Public Transportation Card, South Korea’s T-money (bus, subway, taxi), London’s Oyster card, Beijing’s Municipal Administration and Communications Card, Southern Ontario’s Presto card, Japan Rail’s Suica Card, the San Francisco Bay Area’s Clipper Card, and India’s More Card which predate the ISO/IEC 14443 standard. The following tables list smart cards used for public transportation and other electronic purse applications.

Compatibility with applications and programs are dependent on the software and application developer. Typically, with windows programs, if you can specify a windows printer and the software uses the matching emulation, then a Bluetooth receipt printer will work just as well as a USB printer. For iOS and Android applications, it is a bit more complex and you will need to check with your app developer to determine app compatibility. In many apps rather than selecting an installed printer it will be looking for a specific Bluetooth device, if your printer is not that exact match then it will not recognize the printer as being available for that software.

Contactless MSD cards are similar to magnetic stripe cards in terms of the data they share across the contactless interface. They are only distributed in the U.S. Payment occurs in a similar fashion to mag-stripe, without a PIN and often in off-line mode (depending on parameters of the terminal). The security level of such a transaction is better than a mag-stripe card, as the chip cryptographically generates a code which can be verified by the card issuer’s systems.
I own many of the eom Pos products for my Restaurants. I Wanted to add a printer to my kitchen and I went to there website left a message and got a call on a SUNDAY . They helped me get up and running . I WOULD RECOMMEND THESE GUYS TO EVERYONE!
If you use PayPal and need the money in your business bank account, you’ll have to transfer the money, which could take a few days. But if you need immediate access and you have a PayPal merchant debit card, PayPal is likely the faster option.
