The price is right but the result is even better! they are reliable and they get the job done. I was going to buy some other ones in the $400 price tag, I think these work just as well, if not better. I love them!

Atm it’s cheaper for me to use something else other than square, than to change the printer tablet setup. It appears other people have similar issues. Square managment need to grasp the economics here of only catering to a small hardware segment(Star printers) of the market, while marketing themselves as a simple DIY eftpos POS for small businesses, who burn themselves on compatability issues. Hopefully Square can solve this issue.

A contactless smart card is a contactless credential whose dimensions are credit-card size. Its embedded integrated circuits can store (and sometimes process) data and communicate with a terminal via NFC. Commonplace uses include transit tickets, bank cards and passports.
The inclusion of the legacy CPCL programming language also allows mixed networks of QL / QL Plus and QLn products. And with ZBI 2. x™, directly connect your printers with legacy host systems and peripheral devices, such as scanners and scales.
The final option is to configure your printer by first connecting it to your computer via USB. Some people may find this option easier than the second method, as it can often be a bit fiddly to enter long Wi-Fi passwords using your printer’s basic controls.
Beware of this device! I have been using Square for years successfully (swiper unit plug in). I received this unit as a present, and was excited to try it out. I set it up at home, double checked that it was connected by bluetooth, and ran several successful practice charges. I took it to an art show this past weekend, and following the EXACT same instructions linked the reader to my phone via bluetooth. After inserting the customers card into the unit, after each and every sale my phone indicated “Transaction Complete”. I returned to the square menu and checked that the proper amount was listed for each transaction. I had just short of $2000 in credit/debit card sales. 3 days later when no money had transferred into my banking account I called square. Seems the contactless and chip card reader wasn’t properly synced with my phone (even though my phone indicated the reader WAS connected via bluetooth) and was not operating correctly. It didn’t capture a single complete credit card number. Im not sure if this reader works properly without also purchasing the charging dock. Im not the first person this has happened to. According to Square they are not responsible and Im on my own. 10 of 40 customers requested electronic receipts. Square reached out to them . As of today I have heard from 1 of the 10. I wish I had never used this reader. It’s fussy — and it doesn’t tell you when there is a problem with a transaction. I learned a hard lesson (which cost me just short of $2K. Never again.
When a string of characters (known as a MAC Address) appears in the left pane, click it. This will populate the IP, SUBNET Mask, and Gateway fields. Change the values in the IP field to those obtained in step 7 of the Finding an Available IP Address section of this guide.
USB receipt printers are commonly used. They will save you a few dollars. USB printers connect to Android devices via a USB OTG (On-The-Go) adaptor. Make sure your device supports USB OTG or USB Host mode.
Be sure the printer and the iPad are connected to the same network. To confirm this or change your Wi-Fi network, go to the iPad’s Settings and tap “Wi-Fi” located in the left sidebar. Then select the network that the router is broadcasting and click “Connect”.
Use Cases for WIFI: WIFI Enabled Printers are popular for using in place of LAN Printers where Ethernet cables are not convenient to install. They allow you to place your printer close to a power source as long as it is within range of your WIFI network that your mPOS system is on. Due to this you can position your printers where they make the most sense instead of needing to plan out where your LAN cable will work. However, with a WIFI setup you will need to keep in mind all the barriers between your WIFI Printer and WIFI router to make sure it’s receiving a strong signal for reliable usage.
Two other wireless technologies are Ultra-Wideband (UWB) and Certified Wireless USB. The UWB approach requires devices to transmit information over a wide spectrum of radio frequencies using lower power transmissions. Several competing organizations are trying to establish UWB standards. With Certified Wireless USB, computers send data wirelessly through adapters that plug into USB ports on computers and other devices. Data rates are much higher with this approach, but the range of transmission isn’t as large [source: Bluetooth].

A quickly growing application is in digital identification cards. In this application, the cards are used for authentication of identity. The most common example is in conjunction with a PKI. The smart card will store an encrypted digital certificate issued from the PKI along with any other relevant or needed information about the card holder. Examples include the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Common Access Card (CAC), and the use of various smart cards by many governments as identification cards for their citizens. When combined with biometrics, smart cards can provide two- or three-factor authentication. Smart cards are not always a privacy-enhancing technology, for the subject carries possibly incriminating information about him all the time. By employing contactless smart cards, that can be read without having to remove the card from the wallet or even the garment it is in, one can add even more authentication value to the human carrier of the cards.
Small in size, the Square Trade contactless reader fits into a pocket or bag for easy transport. Unlike a traditional desktop credit card machine, this reader is lightweight enough to take with you to trade shows and other events so you can take payments where ever you are.

Contactless technology does not necessarily prevent use of a PIN for authentication of the user, but it is common for low value transactions (bank credit or debit card purchase, or public transport fare payment) not to require a PIN. This may make such cards more likely to be stolen, or used fraudulently by the finder of someone else’s lost card.

I saw where someone asked this question in April but didn’t get any responses. Please, please, please? Is there some setting that everyone else in America is using, but I’m not? Please help me.

Like smart cards with contacts, contactless cards do not have a battery. Instead, they use a built-in inductor, using the principle of resonant inductive coupling, to capture some of the incident electromagnetic signal, rectify it, and use it to power the card’s electronics.
